Greater Rochester Youth Read

(formerly Greater Rochester Teen Read)

Since 2010, FFRPL has served as the Fiscal Sponsor for the Greater Rochester Teen Read and helped support their program and publicity efforts.

In 2024 the organization re-branded as the Greater Rochester Youth Read.

GRTR is an event focused on encouraging all of the community to read the same Young Adult book and is held in connection with Teen Read Week™, the national adolescent literacy initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). Many copies of the featured book, as well as backlist titles by the authors, are available at libraries across Monroe County.

Veera Hiranandani (The Night Diary, Amil and the After, The Whole Story of Half a Girl, and How to Find What You’re Not Looking For) was the featured author for the 2024 Greater Rochester Youth Read.

Liza Wiemer (The Assignment) was the featured author for the 2023 Greater Rochester Teen Read.

The Assignment is a riveting novel based on the controversial, true story of an incident in Oswego in 2017, where students were asked to debate “both sides” of the Nazi credo. The teacher claimed that arguing in favor of Genocide was a “critical thinking” exercise. The book explores discrimination and antisemitism and reveals their dangerous impact.  Learn more.
