FFRPL provides significant support to the Raising a Reader program at Central Library. Raising a Reader (RAR) is a data-driven, national family reading program which provides weekly bags of books to parents of children zero to five. The Rochester Public Library is a Raising a Reader affiliate.
Raising a Reader instills a love of reading in children and trains parents how to develop the habit of sharing books with their children. High quality books are rotated into the home on a weekly basis for families to practice regular book sharing. Families are connected to the local library in order to sustain book borrowing and book sharing practices.
“RAR gives parents/caregivers the opportunity to change the culture of reading in their home and transform their lives,” explains Tonia.
