Planned Giving to FFRPL

While support of our annual, capital and special project campaigns is integral to the well-being of the library, a planned gift is a great way to invest in the library’s future. We place most planned gifts that we receive into our investment account, so that the funds grow in value as they generate income over time.

The simplest and most common way to make a planned gift is to leave a bequest in your will, made out to the Friends & Foundation of the Rochester Public Library. Bequests are usually simple to establish, although a brief consultation with your attorney is recommended whenever you are creating or making changes to your will.

FFRPL will work with you to determine the option that best meets your donation parameters and objectives, including:

• Gifts of cash or securities: A gift of cash or securities is deductible for federal income tax purposes. Marketable appreciated securities may provide donors with the greatest tax benefit. It is recommended that you seek instructions from your financial advisor before transferring stock.
• Bequests to endowment: Endowment funds are invested and the principal is left untouched. Income from the endowment allows the Library to provide services not covered in the annual operating budget. A bequest to Friends & Foundation of the Rochester Public Library in your will can forever enrich the Library and the community it serves.
• Life insurance policies: Naming Friends & Foundation of the Rochester Public Library as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy can be an inexpensive way to benefit the Library.
• IRA or retirement plan: Designating Friends & Foundation of the Rochester Public Library as the beneficiary of your retirement plan may provide tax savings to your heirs.
• Trusts: A trust established for Friends & Foundation of the Rochester Public Library can provide donors with income for their lives and benefit the Library thereafter. A trust can also provide income to FFRPL during the donor’s lifetimes with the remainder reverting as the donor directs.
• Pooled Income Fund: A gift through an established Pooled Income Fund will provide donors with an income for their lives and benefit the Library thereafter.

All of these gifts may be designated as unrestricted (any amount) or restricted ($10,000 or greater). If you are planning to restrict your gift for a special purpose, please contact us to assure that your objectives can be met.
