The Toy Resource Center at the Lincoln Branch expands the library’s role as a community resource focused on education and literacy. High quality, developmentally-based toys and materials expand the library’s ability to support the needs of children as well as the adults who work with them. Toy Resource Center is dedicated to fostering children’s healthy development as the basis for success in school and life. Toy Resource Center (TRC) aims to provide a supportive learning environment, public access to fundamental early childhood resources and programs that foster educational play experiences, positive adult-child interaction and family literacy.
The 4,500 high quality toys in the Toy Resource Center’s collection are available to borrow, free of charge, with a Monroe County Library card. TRC serves as a model learning environment and expands its capacity to serve more families, day care providers, and teachers. As a result, Toy Resource Center is able to increase children’s learning experiences and serve as an on-going supportive resource and training ground for parents, caregivers, teachers, social workers, and special needs therapists. Each year, many thousands of children and adults are impacted by TRC programs.
The Library would welcome support for expanded programming at TRC, for capital improvements and to increase the endowment to permanently expand open hours at the Center. Currently, TRC is open to the public for only 21 hours each week. The goal is to increase open hours to 40 per week.
